Shillong - Kongthong Village: A journey into the whistling Hills
- Route: Shillong – Sohra Road – Kongthong (60 km / 3–5 hrs)
- Departure: Depart from Shillong after breakfast via scenic route through Smit and Mawjrong.
- En-route Stop: Pause at Laitlum Canyon for panoramic valley views.
- Arrival: Reach Kongthong village by early afternoon and check-in to traditional homestay.
- Welcome: Greeted by locals with a short tune-name demonstration — experience the unique melody tradition where villagers have musical names.
- Lunch: Enjoy a traditional Khasi meal cooked over a woodfire.
- Village Walk: Post-lunch, take a guided walk through village trails, betel nut groves, and bamboo huts.
- Cultural Interaction: Engage with villagers through folk music, storytelling, and whistling demos.
- Dinner: Served at the homestay using locally sourced ingredients.
- Overnight: Stay at Kongthong homestay.
Sunrise trek, cultural wrap-up- return to Shillong.
- Early Morning: Wake up for a short guided trek to Kutmadan Viewpoint for sunrise.
- Scenic Experience: Enjoy breathtaking views of the valley blanketed in morning mist.
- Breakfast: Return for a traditional breakfast featuring millet pancakes, black tea, and wild honey.
- Optional Activity: Visit nearby Sder Village or the sacred forest.
- Craft Demo: Attend a local weaving or bamboo craft demonstration by village artisans.
- Village Walk: Final walk through the village to hear more whistled names and interact with elders about oral traditions and folklore.
- Check-out: Depart from Kongthong by noon.
- Drive Back: Return to Shillong via the same scenic route.
- Meal Break: Lunch or snack stop at Mawjrong or Sohra café en route.
- Arrival: Expected to reach Shillong by 5–6 PM.
